CK Sailing Places First at Regional and State Levels

The CK Sailing team has had lots to celebrate the past several weeks, bringing home two first place wins at the regional and state levels.
The Michigan State championship was held at the Pontiac Yacht Club on Saturday, October 20th. The regatta consisted of 9th through 12th grade students from both Divisions A and B. This accomplishment follows the team’s impressive second-place finish in Traverse City last year, and marks the first time that Cranbrook has taken a first-place finish in Divisions A or B.

Despite some storms and lightning that made for choppy waters, the CK Sailing team prevailed against their opponents and the weather to come home as state champions. Overall, Cranbrook’s sailing teams earned a top-ten spot at the event, holding strong in sixth place. The Division A team of sophomores Henry Gonzalez (skipper) and Paige Gorman (crew) brought home the championship trophy due to their impressive score.

The Cranes have also made waves at the regional level, bringing home the gold from the Shepherd Championship held at Columbia Sailing School in Chicago On November 10th and 11th. The teams battled cold, shifty weather on the Columbia Bay, beating out twelve other teams for first place.
