Trooper Sanders ’91 Inspires Students at Upper School’s Model UN with AI and Global Policy Debate

This past Saturday, the Upper School hosted more than 130 students from nearby International Academy and the CK Model UN program for a day of learning and parliamentary debate. Students from both schools collaborated closely since May to design engaging programming and well-researched debates around contemporary global issues.

To kick off the day, CK Alum Trooper Sanders ’91 spoke with everyone in attendance about the role that AI has played in global relations and the role it may take on in the future of global relations and policy.

Trooper Sanders was a domestic policy advisor to former President Bill Clinton at his post-White House foundation as well as a White House policy advisor to first lady Michelle Obama and, during the 1990s, Vice President Al Gore and second lady Tipper Gore. He served a term on the National Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee that was created by Congress to advise the President and White House on AI and American Competitiveness.

Trooper has spent the most recent years of his career to advance trustworthy AI’s role in society, currently as the founder of Predawn.ai, an advisory practice dedicated to turning uncertainty about emerging technology understanding and action that benefits society. He also serves as second vice president of the Girl Scouts National Board, is on the American Arbitration Association’s Board, and Carnegie Mellon University Block Center for Technology and Society Advisory Board among many others.

The CK Model UN program also partnered this year with the Upper School's UNICEF club to raise funds to support UNICEF's efforts in weather disaster relief. Thanks to the generosity of students from both schools, we were able to raise $320.62, surpassing the fundraising goal of $150! According to UNICEF, just $5 can provide 13 children with lifesaving therapeutic food, meaning these contributions will go a long way to help UNICEF provide safe water, nutrition, and emergency aid to children in need.
