Middle School Artists Dive into Campus Wonders

The Middle School for Girls Visual Arts classes, taught by Rob Thiess, make full use of Cranbrook campus resources during the fall. Classes visit Cranbrook Institute of Science (CIS), Cranbrook Art Museum (CAM), and the Frank Lloyd Wright Smith House to inform student work later done in the studio.

The sixth graders visit CIS to study pottery and CAM (pictured) to view portraits in the Plaza Vault. The seventh grade views prints and learns printmaking at CAM and takes an architectural tour of the Smith House. Eighth graders view masks at CIS and landscape paintings at CAM. The students value and appreciate these opportunities to be inspired by world class artists and designers.
