CK Model United Nations Team Brings Home Great Success!

Cranbrook’s Model United Nations (MUN) team had an exciting and prosperous weekend at the 29th Annual Conference of the Model United Nations of the University of Chicago (MUNUC). The team travelled to the Palmer House Hilton in downtown Chicago to participate in the event last Thursday, February 2nd through Sunday, February 5th.

The MUNUC provides students from across the globe to gain first-hand experience in understanding international debate and diplomacy, discussing global issues, and engaging with the world around them. Students also develop professional and personal skills, taking intellectual and social risks to participate in meaningful and productive discussion and intellectual engagement. This year, nearly 3,000 high-school students from the US, Mexico, and China took on the roles of diplomats and ambassadors to participate in discussion and debate, joining the University of Chicago’s 200 undergraduate participants.

The majority of students on Cranbrook’s team represented Germany throughout various UN committees. As such, the team was able to participate in a private Q&A session with the United States Deputy-Consul of Germany, Mr. Mario Soos. Our well-informed students had more questions than Mr. Soos had time for, and he left the session deeply impressed with the team for their insights and inquiries.

For their hard work throughout the event, the CK team brought home a record-breaking 14 awards for their verbal and intellectual aptitude. Verbal Commendations were awarded to Angie Luo, Konnie Lin, Taeyoung (Aaron) Han, Kevin Sang, and Hanzhi (Andy) Wang. Honorable Mention awards were given to Ben Iorio, Sean Ojha, Theresa Chen, Anne Kong, Juliette Raymond, and Grace Wang. Outstanding awards were given to Sara Shoemaker, Charlie Panfil, and Garrick Allison.

Many congratulations to the team for their impressive achievements!
