Cranbrook Kingswood Students Earn Top Scores on ACT, SAT Tests

This school year, a total of five Cranbrook Kingswood students have joined the ever-growing ranks of students who have earned perfect scores on their ACTs or SATs.

The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading, and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36, and a student's composite score reflects the average of the four test scores. Although the actual number of students who score a 36 varies from year to year, less than one-tenth of 1 percent of students across the country who take the ACT will earn a top score. Among test takers in the high school graduating class of 2014, for example, only 1,407 out of nearly 1.85 million students earned a composite score of 36. The students who have earned a composite score of 36 on their ACT tests are:

Justin Applefield, class of ‘18
Michael Wahrman, class of ‘17
Guobibi “Grace” Wang, class of ‘17
Zhenhao “Bruce” Yang, class of ‘17

Nikhil Baddam, class of ’17, earned a top composite score of 2400 on his SAT test, an examination used a measure of student college preparedness since its creation in 1926. Critical reading, mathematics, and writing proficiencies are assessed individually through multiple-choice, student-produced, and essay responses. Though the exact number of students earning a composite score of 2400 varies from year to year, less than one-twentieth of one percent, on average, will earn a top score.

Through their accomplishments, these students follow in the footsteps of other Cranbrook students who have also earned top scores. Nine Cranbrook Kingswood students have received perfect test scores since 2013: the five listed above; CK seniors Sarah Berman and Anjali Roychowdhury in 2015 and 2014, respectively; alumna Iris Huang in 2014; and alum Chayce Rodriguez-Gagnon in 2013. Baddam adds his SAT achievement to that of Iris Huang, who in addition to her perfect ACT score also earned a perfect score on her SAT test that same year.

Congratulations to these students for their hard work and success!
