Cranbrook Kingswood Students Win MIT Launch Entrepreneurship Competition

A team of Cranbrook Kingswood students combined their efforts to take first place at the MIT Launch Entrepreneurship Competition, which took place on April 30th in Boston, Massachusetts.

This event is an international competition with the initiative to give high school students across the nation the techniques and opportunity to succeed in business and finance. Participating student teams create and “start” model companies in their school settings in order to learn the entrepreneurial mindset and skills needed to start real companies. Course materials follow the rigor and standards of MIT, incorporating Disciplined Entrepreneurship with professional skills development to take students through the startup process from idea to implementation. A trip to MIT in the spring allows students to pitch their ideas before knowledgeable entrepreneurs, who then take the best and most professional “businesses” and award them grants to bring their dreams to life.

The CK team’s submission for this year’s competition was their company “VirtuLab”. Teammate Sean Ojha described the submission as “an educational virtual reality software company that produces VR educational demonstrations, labs and programs; and aims to create a democratized marketplace where VR developers can upload their own software for compensation and recognition.”

As international finalists, the team joined nine other finalist teams at the competition in Boston. “All ten teams who made it to Boston were all guaranteed grants,” said Ohja, “but we won overall first place.” This top status not only gives the team great honors, but also some grant funding to assist them in their efforts to bring their company to life.

Congratulations to the team for their great accomplishments, and good luck in all future endeavors!
