MSG Writers Earn Regional, National Awards from the Scholastic Writing Competition
Five 8th grade students from the Cranbrook Kingswood Middle School for Girls have received high honors for creative writing works submitted to the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
Founded in 1923, the Scholastic Art Writing Awards celebrate the creative and artistic lives of students in grades 7 through 12, awarding honors to students who show exceptional proficiency in a variety of visual and literary art forms. Schools throughout the United States, Canada, and American schools abroad annually submit over 150,000 works of student artwork and writing for evaluation by professionals, educators, and scholars of the fine arts. It is from this large body of submissions that these students and their works have been selected.
Four students have received awards at the Regional level, their works having been selected from the top 7-15% of all regional student submissions: Rebecca Blum, Honorable Mention in the “Science Fiction/Fantasy” category Julia Bolukh, Honorable Mention in the “Science Fiction/Fantasy” category Shannon Lewand, Honorable Mention in the “Humor” category Emma Van Houten, Silver Key award in the “Humor” category
One student, Safura Syed, received a Silver Medal in the “Flash Fiction” category on the National level. Only 1% of student submissions are selected for national recognition, and Safura’s work was chosen out of approximately 320,000 submitted works of art and writing. Consequently, Safura has been recognized as one of the top student writers in the nation.
Congratulations to these five student writers for their incredible achievements!
