Students Discuss “Human Ingenuity” at 2016 World Affairs Seminar

Several enterprising and innovative speakers, as well as student-led panels and discussions, brought thoughtful and engaging speeches to Cranbrook students and faculty at the 2016 World Affairs Seminar.

The seminar is part of a long-standing Cranbrook Schools tradition which encourages students to think critically about local and global issues. Through lectures and open dialogues between speakers and students, the WAS hopes to create open-minded leaders and citizens who are knowledgeable and concerned about global trends and topics. This year’s theme was “Human Ingenuity” and took place on Friday, February 19th at the Kingswood campus.

Dr. Erika Wagner, the founding executive director of the X PRIZE Lab @ MIT; and Veronika Scott, CEO and founder of The Empowerment Plan were just two of many speakers who came to offer insight to Cranbrook Schools students on the importance of getting involved in emerging and innovative fields of study, charity work, and engineering. Other discussions and topics were brought by Cranbrook Schools alumni and current students. Lectures and discussions from Cranbrook Schools alumni and current students alike offered insights and encouragement on a variety of topics, ranging from artificial intelligence and space flight; to local and global social change and charity work; to learning styles and channeling creativity, passion, and motivation.

Many thanks to all of the speakers who shared their words and ideas with the Cranbrook Schools community!
