Cranbrook Robotics Team Earns Third Place in World Robotics Olympics
One of Cranbrook Schools’ robotics teams took third place in the World Robotics Olympics (WRO). The competition took place in Beijing, China and was hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology from November 21rd to November 25th. Teammates David Qin and Steven Wang’s perfect score at the WRO North American Finals this past fall made them eligible to participate in the 2015 World Adolescent Robot Contest (WARC).
David and Steven had to build their robots for the competition on-site and make programming adjustments in order to practice before their events. Earning perfect scores on their first two rounds, as well as twenty extra points for solving additional problems and puzzles, the team earned third place. A trophy for Robot Design was awarded in addition to the third place medal.
The WRO is a global robotics competition open to students across the globe. Students from around the world design and build their own robots for play against other global teams in a variety of engineering challenges. In addition to communications, leadership, and teamwork skills, participating students are able to apply the STEM concepts they have learned in the classroom to the various competitions at which they participate. Many congratulations to David and Steven, as well as coaches Elmer Santos and Betsy Lamb, for this great experience and achievement!
