Cranbrook Schools Senior to Participate in Stanford Reischauer Scholars Program
Cranbrook Schools senior Harry Jung has been selected to participate in the Reischauer Scholars Program through Stanford University. He is one of a small selection of high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors from across the United States who are chosen for this rigorous and engaging cultural program.
The Resichauer Scholars Program (RSP) is sponsored by the Stanford Program on International and Cross-Cultural Education and the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI). It provides 25-30 students across the nation the opportunity to participate in an online intensive study program of Japan. Harry is the second Cranbrook student to have been chosen to participate in RSP. Alum Robert Li participated in 2015 before his graduation.
“It is a great program and a lot of work,” said Chris Bryant, history and social science instructor for the Upper School and one of Harry’s proudest supporters. “I attended this program two summers ago and have encouraged highly motivated students to apply. We wish Harry well.”
The RSP enables participants to accumulate incomparable expertise about Japan that may have a significant impact on their choice of study and future careers. Students are provided with an extensive study of Japanese art, contemporary society, economics, history, literature, politics, and religion, with particular attention paid to the relationship between Japan and the United States. Online lectures and discussions are led by both Japanese and American ambassadors, experts, and scholars, and focus on a wide range of topics and concerns. Those who complete the course successfully earn Stanford Continuing Studies Program (CSP) credit and a Certificate of Completion from SPICE, Stanford University. Congratulations and good luck to Harry on this great accomplishment!
