Congratulations to the Class of 2013!

On Friday, June 7, 2013, the Cranbrook Kingswood class of 2013 graduated in two packed ceremonies at Christ Church Cranbrook. Although Cranbrook has no religious affiliation, it is customary to hold graduation at the church, originally a part of the Cranbrook community built by George and Ellen Booth. And although Cranbrook is co-educational in high school, it is also customary to graduate boys and girls in separate ceremonies: a tradition that survives from the days when they were educated separately.

R. Jamison Williams, class of 1959, delivered the address at the boys' graduation. Williams is the founder and managing partner of Williams, Williams, Ratner & Plunkett. He is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Michigan Opera Theatre and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and as a board director for a number of companies. Williams spoke about the need to think and reflect in the digital age.

Julie Fisher Cummings, class of 1973, delivered the address at the girls' graduation. Her many accomplishments include the Vice Chair of the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation, Co-Founder and Chair of the Lovelight Foundation, an MSSW from Columbia University, and she is Adjunct Professor of Child Policy at the University of Miami. Cummings advised graduates to be lifelong learners, give compassionately, and recognize the power of working with a team.

Delivering the senior farewell from the class of 2013 were, for the boys, John Bernardi, and, for the girls, Jemma Howlett.

In his farewell to the senior class, Eric Linder, Upper School English Instructor, discussed the importance of literature.

Congratulations, class of 2013! Aim high and go forth to serve!
