Los Angeles Eames Furniture Viewing and Afterglow Event

On Saturday, October 29, Ryan Bradley C'91 brought alumni together for a very special event in Los Angeles: a private viewing of over 425 pieces of furniture by Charles and Ray Eames, whose fateful meeting at the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 1940 gave rise to a new movement in furniture design. Eames expert and show curator Daniel Ostroff led a walking tour of the exhibition, which began with a discussion about the Eames' years at Cranbrook, where they worked closely with Eero Saarinen. The collection is currently on display at world-renowned furniture and antiques store, JF Chen, which has amassed an impressive catalogue of pieces spanning every decade of Eames design production.

The event was part of Cranbrook's online party book, a new web-based fundraising platform featuring special programs and experiences hosted by alumni, parents and friends. All revenue from ticket sales helps to support educational programming for current students. As the Director of Southern California's Cranbrook Regional Alumni Network (CRAN), Ryan was excited about this incredible opportunity to bring alumni together while also giving back to the Schools. Graduates of all ages turned out from as far away as San Diego for the occasion, and enjoyed the exhibition as well as the company.
