Cranbrook Kingswood girls’ swimming and diving posted their second win in a meet against Milan High School, with a score of 102-84. This meet was the team’s first win in their home pool, and the fast times, spirited cheering, and confident dives showed the crowd that for this year’s team, there’s no place like home.
After a closely-contested loss in the 200 medley relay, the aardvarks took control, with Kylie Powrie and Molly Laubernds pulling a 1-2 punch in the 200 freestyle event. Both Laubernds and Powrie each went on to earn an additional first place and for the team, in the 100 and 500 freestyle events, respectively. Alexa Resetar racked up two individual first places, one in 200 individual medley and the other in the 100 backstroke event. All of CK’s first place finishers earned state qualifying times. More smoking fast finishes were displayed by our CK girls. Emme Reasoner churned up the water in the 100 fly, achieving a state cut in the process. Milon Crawford got state cuts in both the 50 and the 100 freestyle events, and swam a blistering 50 free to anchor both the 200 medley and freestyle relays. Aarthi Manjunathan swam a personal best time in the 500 freestyle event, cutting nearly ten seconds from her time in last week’s meet. Madeline Montgomery accomplished a similar feat in her 100 freestyle event, dropping more than 9 seconds and establishing a new personal best.
In the diving event, senior Sterling Keiser put in an excellent performance. Even though she took second to Milan’s Haley Feeman, she finished the event with an impressive 214.90 points. Freshman divers Jacqueline Stein and Libby Barnes both made gains in their individual final scores. Junior Alex Siems was back on board for her first outing with the team, putting in a rock-solid performance.
In the final event of the night, the team of Kylie Powrie, Larissa Sambel, Emme Reasoner and Alexa Resetar put together a 400 freestyle relay that took first place and blew the competition out of the water. It was a great finish to the first home meet of the season.
