Alumni/Varsity Soccer Game - August 24, 2008

Margi Brown
A quick recap for everyone who wasn't at the game (or paying attention). The alumni lost 3-2, and yes my current lack of speed was responsible for one of varsity's goals (either that or Hammond is a lot faster than I think he is). Alumni goals were scored by Lou Lulaj ('92) and Tim Breker ('05) who was in from Germany. Tim's goal was a penalty kick that Trent Rook ('07) garnered when he was taken down after he dribbled around two varsity defenders and was headed in on goal from the right side. Tim's playing time consisted of one corner kick play and the penalty kick, which he took either barefooted or in street shoes. Tim's left ankle was in a cast because of ruptured tendons or ligaments. The Alumni hit the varsity goalie with shots quite often and the crossbar/goalposts almost as often.

We had a record 4 women playing, Jill Seidl ('05), Allie DeCraene ('04), Leanne DeCraene ('01), and Sarah Twedt ('07). We also had a hockey player (Casey Wellman ('06), soon to be playing for U-Mass) and Henry Whiting's ('81) son (who in a couple of years will be trying out for varsity). And once again, Bill Holmes played for the alumni and his son, Andy, played for the varsity.

It was great day for the game and a fun time. I hope everyone can make it for next year's game.
