Field Hockey - One goal was all we needed against ASH!

The team pulled together once again to get ahead and stay ahead despite numerous scoring chances for ASH, a penalty stroke against us and a serious injury to Sky.

Once again Samar's boomer hits paid off for the team.  In a play frequently rehearsed in practice, Samar "blammed" the free hit from just outside the circle and Audrey tipped it into the goal!  Way to execute!

From that point forward, pure hustle paid off.  We stuck with our gameplan to keep the ball out of the middle of the field to avoid getting trapped in their "big hit-free hit" playing style.  The mid-fielders did an excellent job feeding passes up to the forwards and covering an amazing amount of ground.  (Glad to have you back Becky!)  The forwards kept the pressure on with great passing and tenacity.  Nana and Carolyn combined for a bunch of break aways.  Kristen and Emily kept their defense busy with some great passing plays.  Kristen and Nana combined for a bunch more break aways at the end of the game.  Audrey and Dani combined for a number of scoring chances against ASH that we just couldn't convert.  No matter - we had our shut out.

The shut out was earned by the D line and fantastic goal keeping by Candice and a few timely saves and interceptions by Liz, Becca, Linley, Samar and Ann Marie. 

Oh and that penalty stroke.... (Don't miss Mr. Gard's awesome photo) An unorthodox penalty stroke style (a backward shoveling set-up) didn't phase Candice who stopped the shot, and turned the momentum much more squarely in our direction.
