Cranbrook Senior Takes 1st Prize in John Locke Institute Global Essay Competition

Alex Wang '25 has won the Theology Prize in the 2024 John Locke Institute Global Essay Competition.

The John Locke Institute Global Essay Competition is hosted by The John Locke Institute, an independent educational organization located in Oxford, UK.

According to the Institute, the competition, “encourages young people to cultivate the characteristics that turn good students into great writers: independent thought, depth of knowledge, clear reasoning, critical analysis and persuasive style. Our Essay Competition invites students to explore a wide range of challenging and interesting questions beyond the confines of the school curriculum.”
 
The competition is considered one of the most prestigious and competitive essay competitions for high school students in the world, this year receiving 34,823 entries from over 100 countries. Learn more about the competition here. Students must submit an argumentative essay that is at most 2,000 words long. The categories for 2024 included philosophy, politics, economics, history, psychology, theology, and law.
 
His essay will be available upon publication later this year.
