This spring while studying Ecology, Dr. Kokoszka and Mrs. Foerg’s AP Biology students explored the Rouge River watershed on the Cranbrook campus. Over 80 students sampled and measured 10 locations in the river over three days.
They measured the physical attributes (width, depth, flow rate), analyzed the chemical levels (pH, nitrate, phosphate), and identified the organisms found in the riverbed. This data will be used to approximate the overall water quality, and students will make recommendations for improving our part of this vital watershed. The classes enjoyed being outside, getting to know our campus better, and putting classroom knowledge into practice.
