Thanks to student effort, Upper School awarded top recognition as Michigan Green School.
The Leaders in the Environment (LITE) club applied to get Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School designated as a Michigan Green School through their work on campus to promote awareness of environmental issues, raise funds for environmental causes, and promote environmental stewardship. Their projects included recycling electronics and reducing food waste.
Thanks to their efforts, the Upper School has been awarded Evergreen status, which is the highest possible designation that a school can receive – and can only be achieved through organizing more than 20 activities for students.
A group of LITE students including Presidents Rai-Ching Yu, Liv Heald, and Zev Frankel, and VP Oriana Shi attended an awards ceremony on Friday at the Detroit Zoo.
The Michigan Green Schools Program encourages public and private schools to participate in environmentally friendly and energy savings activities.
A school achieving 10–14 of the listed activities can apply to be designated a Michigan Green School.
A school achieving 15-19 of the listed activities can apply to be designated a Michigan Emerald School.
A school completing 20 or more of the listed activities can apply to be designated a Michigan Evergreen School.
