Katie Lorts

Marking 40 Years with Joy!
As the orchestra director of Cranbrook Schools for forty years, Katie Lorts is unrivaled in her ability to see and create the experience of symphony.
She teaches across all divisions and has taught many student over the course of a Cranbrook career. The summit of many hours of preparation are the concerts that have deep community identity: the winter concert at Christ Church Cranbrook, Brookside’s Spring Festival, and the Spring Concert Series for the middle and upper schools. Keeping multiple small ensembles in orbit at the same time, Katie provides chamber music, for many of Cranbrook’s most festive occasions, but also for a number of outreach events in the larger community. When the upper school selected Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony as the Community Read/Listen some years ago, Katie responded by designing the final choral movement for the entire performing arts department for the winter concert series. We look for many years of joy to come!
