Cranbrook Schools athletics coach Andy Weidenbach has made an insightful and inspiring contribution in support of Destination Unstoppable, a book written by leadership expert Maureen Monte.
Following the experiences of CK’s Boys Varsity Hockey team in 2015, the book discusses the ways in which Weidenbach and Monte were able to harness the team’s inherent talents and competitive spirit in order to deepen their commitment and connection to their teammates. As a result, the team achieved an incredible 0.909 win rate, outscored their competitors 67 to 16 goals over 11 games, and excelled in both the semi-finals (8-0) and the state championship (4-0). As Weidenbach says, “they became unstoppable.”
His article, which can be found here, explores the experience in depth and the resulting rewards he felt during and afterward. He writes, “Success came from a common mindset created by the heightened energy of a team who believes in how good they are, values the strengths of other players, and aligns all that talent with a team view of success. Easy? No. Successful and rewarding? You bet.”
Weidenbach just completed his 37th year as a head coach and his 23rd season as head coach at Cranbrook-Kingswood High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He has been active in the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association, the Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League, and the Michigan High School Athletic Association, doing his best to promote high school hockey in Michigan. Andy's overall high school hockey record thru the 2015-2016 season is 459 wins, 159 losses, 38 ties. His teams won the MHSAA Division III State Championship in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2013, and 2015.
Many thanks to Coach Weidenbach for his insights and commitment to helping our athletes reach their full potential!
