Hiking Adventure Camp

Hiking Camp campers explore Cranbrook’s 319-acre campus of woods, trails, streams, and lakes. Each day includes guided hikes, nature discovery, fort building, and hands-on outdoor activities that encourage curiosity and teamwork. Campers learn about local wildlife, practice outdoor skills, and build confidence through exploration. This experience fosters a connection to nature while creating space to make new friends, grow, and enjoy time together outdoors.

About the Camp

(boys and girls entering grades 3-5 in the fall of 2026)

A Day in the Life
Campers start their adventure with a cheerful morning gathering, checking gear and reviewing safety routines before heading out to explore the woods, meadows, and lake trails of campus. Every day brings something new — one morning might include spotting deer tracks or foraging for interesting leaves, while another could mean hiking along shaded paths to a secret fort-building spot.

Midmorning brings a snack brought from home and water break as we reflect on our earlier adventures, then it’s time to dive into hands-on activities like climbing sturdy trees, skipping stones, working on nature-based crafts, or studying insects up close. Campers might wade through shallow streams, learn about local birds, work together to build a sturdy forest shelter, try their hand at fishing or set off on a short afternoon hike to see what new discoveries nature holds that day. The day wraps up with reflection, sharing stories of favorite sightings, and getting ready to reunite with family — tired, dirty, and happy from a full day of outdoor exploration.

About the Instructor
With a lifelong love of the outdoors and years of experience helping young learners discover its wonders, April Antczak brings both expertise and enthusiasm to every hike and hands-on adventure. As a science and outdoor education teacher at Cranbrook Schools, she teaches students in grades 1–3 how to explore nature with curiosity, respect, and confidence.

A certified environmental educator (EEC A, Michigan Alliance for Environmental and Outdoor Education), Mrs. Antczak combines a strong background in science with extensive real-world experience as an avid hiker, kayaker, angler, and naturalist. She holds a Master’s in Teaching Elementary Education and has taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades, giving her a deep understanding of how children learn best through play, exploration, and discovery.

Mrs. Antczak is passionate about helping campers build a lifelong connection to the natural world — one muddy trail, sparkling pond, and curious discovery at a time.
