CK Girls Take Swimming & Diving League Championship, Eye State Title

The Cranbrook Kingswood girls swimming and diving team put together a powerful performance to take the Independent League title over Detroit Country Day.

This event brought together a season of hard work for all of the girls and the results showed it, with personal bests and new state cuts. Senior Amanda McGuiness had a great performance in the 50 free with a new state cut time. Freshman Kendall Young got her first state cut in the 100 backstroke with a new personal best time. Nicola Reasoner had a great swim in the 500 freestyle with a personal best just 12 hundredths off the state time. Ariana Sauber dropped 7 seconds in the 100 free. Alex Roman had best performances in her 50 free and her 100 back, coming just shy of a state cut. Sarah Jane Post led off the 200 free relay with a 26.3, less than .2 seconds off of the state cut time. Aarthi Manjunathan also came breathtakingly close to a state cut in the 100 back, achieving a new personal best time. Divers Megan Davis, Sterling Keiser and Abby Miklosovic put together a series of dives that showed off all of the effort they have put into their season and thrilled the fans.

With a league victory under their belts, the girls have set their sights on the Division 3 State Meet. Two days after the league meet, Nichola Reasoner and Kendall Young made state cuts in the 200 Individual Medley. With these two girls coming on board the state finals team, and the addition of Megan Davis and Sterling Keiser who qualified for states at the diving regional meet, Cranbrook Kingswood will send a total of 16 athletes to compete in the Division 3 State Championship Meet held at Eastern Michigan University Nov. 20-21. The roster of athletes who will represent Cranbrook Kingswood at the state finals include Rosemary O'Connor '10 , Bridget "Brie" Sherer '10, Milon Crawford '12, Kaitlyn Fries '11, Molly Laubernds '12, Amanda McGinnis '10 , Maeve McHugh '10 , Alexandria "Alex" Miller '11, Kylie Powrie '13,  Emme Reasoner '13, Nicola Reasoner '11, Alexa Resetar '13, Larissa Sambel '12, Kendall Young '13 and Divers Megan Davis ’10 and Sterling Keiser ’11. The size of the qualifying team and the talent that they will bring to the meet this year is creating quite a buzz. It will be an exciting meet, and the Aardvarks are prepared to put in the fastest swims and the most exacting dives of their careers. Competition starts at noon on both Friday and Saturday, at the Michael H. Jones Natatorium. Come cheer on the girls as they make their bid for a state title.
