Hundreds of members of the Cranbrook community gathered on Saturday, October 18 to celebrate a major milestone in the Campaign for Cranbrook. The day marked the dedication of the new Boys’ Middle School gym and renovations.
After months of hard work, the project was completed on time and on budget, and now provides Cranbrook’s 6th- to 8th-grade boys athletic facilities that rival those of most high schools. In addition to the state-of-the-art gymnasium and locker areas, the renovations also include a stunning new lobby and entrance, an all-new fitness room with top-of-the-line equipment, and a bigger, brighter dining area that, by accommodating more students at once, allows for more flexible scheduling options for the entire school.
Among the speakers at the dedication were lead donors Stephen and Bobbi Polk, who thanked all the donors who made the dream of a truly superior facility a reality. Other speakers included Class of 2013 representative Christopher McDonald, Boys’ Middle School Director Larry Ivens, Director of Schools Arlyce Seibert, Cranbrook Educational Community President Rick Nahm, Board of Governors Chair Linda Aviv, and Board of Trustees Chair Jim Vlasic.
Recognized at the event were long-time Cranbrook Schools faculty members Prospero and Fran Dagbovie, in whose honor the new lobby was named, and departing Middle School Athletic Director Tom Mecsey, in whose honor the new Athletic Office was named.
Following dedication speeches and some fun and games, all families present were invited to participate in the ribbon cutting that marked the official opening of the new facilities.
