Student Newspaper The Crane-Clarion Continues to Take Top Awards

In late November, the CK newspaper of record was notified that it had won the Pacemaker Award, a national award given to student newspapers judged the best of the best student press. This prestigious recognition from the National Scholastic Press Association in collaboration with with the Newspaper Association of America Foundation, went to only 26 high school papers in the nation, four of them in Michigan.

In the smaller category of papers of more than seventeen pages, The Crane was one of only seven papers nationally, and the only Michigan paper to take the award. The only other Michigan high school newspapers to receive it were Shield (Andover High School, Bloomfield Hills), The Update (H.H. Dow High School, Midland), and Focus (Midland High School, Midland).

This is The Crane's first Pacemaker Award. The newspaper was awarded a First Place award with three marks of distinction from the National Scholastic Press Association in late August, the third year in a row the Crane took this award. The newspaper also won a First Place/Gold Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in September for the 2006-07 year.

The 28-page second issue of the 2007-08 Crane has gone to press and will be available on campus from Wednesday, December 12 to Friday, December 14.

Congrats to the Crane staff - students & faculty advisors! Well deserved! Though I've never been a faculty advisor, I have had the opportunity on a number of occasions to see the tremendous effort that goes into making the Crane the quality publication that it is.
