He was originally hired to instruct mathematics at Cranbrook School in 1963 and went on to perform duties as the Dean of Students, Assistant Headmaster and House Master. He also coached football, track, wrestling and girls and boys golf.
A sincere and honest man with a personality that could brighten anyone’s day, Walden had the gift of conducting effective, one-on-one conversation.
In 1997, Walden was offered Cranbrook Kingswood’s first sabbatical, which he used to earn a clinical psychology degree from the Center for Humanistic Studies. From that point on, Walden became the school counselor, helping students overcome personal and social challenges.
For 41 years, Walden was a cornerstone of Cranbrook and his retirement in 2004 left an irreplaceable legacy of compassion and good will on campus.
