Team Defense Shines in 4-3 Win @ University Liggett
The girls hockey team took on perennial powerhouse University Liggett with a defensive game plan. Liggett opened up the scoring in the 1st period but Julia Asfour answered early in the 2nd on a beautiful goal from the left circle after receiving a nice pass from Phoebe Knoer. Liggett answered back late in the 2nd to reclaim the lead. The Cranes came off the 2nd intermission holding sustained pressure in the Knight's zone. But then Julia Timko picked off a clearing attempt walked in and sniped the game tying-goal. The go-ahead marker game with 7-minutes to go in the 3rd on a pretty passing play between Julia Asfour and Julia Timko with Abbey Hardy slamming home a pass across the crease. Thankfully the Cranes were not done scoring. Julia Asfour intercepted a pass in the offensive zone, and threw a shot from the sideboards surprising the Knight's goalie. The Knight's added their third goal with 5 seconds remaining in the third. Cranbrook held off Liggett's 6 on 5 defensive zone faceoff to preserve the win. While the Cranes played a defensively stingy game, Grace Sui made a number of amazing saves along the way.
