An Innovative “Forum” for Middle School Latin Students
Latinists re-create structures from antiquity as part of their language study.
Middle School for Boys Latinists in grades 6 and 8 exhibited displays of their model Pompeiian villas and a to-scale model of the circa 4th century forum at Rome on Friday, October 14. The work was part of Middle School for Boys Latin Teacher Nathan Costa’s classes, and helped the students connect the language they are studying today with the civilization that originated it.
The Latin students invited parents and other guests who were attending Parent Visiting Day to be thoughtful inquisitors of the models, as students offer their thoughts on design, history, and use of the buildings and monuments they had replicated.
Special thanks go to Middle School for Boys Library Media Specialist Jen Dawson and Middle School Technology Integration Specialist Mike Toth for their support and collaboration with these projects!
