About the Natatorium

This breathtaking building, constructed in 1999 by acclaimed architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien, hosts public programs, classes and special events year round. Located on the Cranbrook campus, this building is the perfect marriage of design and functionality: an architectural masterpiece that is also a hub of activity and fun in the water.

Come for swimming lessons, a SCUBA class, a morning of aqua aerobics, take a lifeguarding class, learn how to become a better competitive swimmer, or join our Speedsters team. Purchase a Natatorium membership to use the facility during recreational and lap swims or pay a daily guest fee, or rent the Natatorium for a birthday party, reunion, meeting, or other special event.

  • Speedsters Information

    Speedsters 2018-2019
Registration opened at 6 am on Friday, July 27th.
All time slots are currently full.

Speedsters is an opportunity for young swimmers (ages 7-13) to learn proper technique, to refine mechanics and to learn the value of the sport of swimming.  The Speedsters program builds confidence in each swimmer by focusing on goal setting, physical endurance, team building, dry land conditioning, clock reading, in-water technique, mechanics in all four strokes and starts and turns.

What makes our program distinct is that our coaches love teaching!  Using their many years of experience, they are able to offer individualized attention in a fun, structured and non-competitive environment.

At each practice, the swimmers will meet on deck to discuss the day's goals.  The swimmers will break into skill-appropriate groups and do a light warm-up followed by drill work.  Swimmers will enjoy participating in three "timing days" which are opportunities to display what they have learned while racing the clock to set new best times.  The final "timing day" is when Speedsters groups meet to enjoy the experience of a large swim meet and the goal of breaking individual swim times.

  • Winter 2019 Swim Lessons

    Winter 2019

Our swim lesson program is designed with special attention given to individualized instruction, small class size and experienced, friendly instructors.  Children learn to work in a group setting and receive one-on-one instruction at various points of the class.

Before registering, please review the class descriptions and determine what your child can do.  When in doubt, enroll a child in the class where he/she will find the most success and have the greatest comfort level to start of with.  Please remember all spaces are first-come, first-serve.

Please look under Program Downloads for the current flyer.
