Memorial service planned for Dr. Stephen Rosenquist at 2016 Reunion

Former Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School Latin teacher Dr. Stephen Rosenquist, affectionately known as Doc to hundreds of his students and advisees, passed away on September 27, 2015 at the age of 70. A memorial will be held in his honor at the Cranbrook Library Reading Room on Saturday, June 11 from 4-5pm.

Dr. Rosenquist taught at Cranbrook for nearly 20 years, starting in 1986 when he arrived from Minnesota to replace another beloved Latin teacher, Robert Hoffman. It soon became clear that one larger-than-life personality had succeeded another. With a penchant for narrative diversions that could take a conversation from Cicero to Greek history to Turkish coffee, Rosenquist quickly became a favorite among students, who appreciated his ability to listen, ask questions and always find the right thing to say.

In the days following his death, as news spread among alumni and a steady stream of remembrances began to appear on his Facebook page, one common theme became clear: Doc had changed a lot of lives for the better. Alumni and friends are invited to share their memories of Doc at the memorial service. Anyone who wants to share their remembrances but cannot be there in person can send them along via email to alumni@cranbrook.edu
