Week of Inspiration Launches Ceramics Students’ Annual Effort to Feed the Hungry

The week of November 11-17 was an extremely inspiring week for Upper School Ceramics students. The students visited Cranbrook Art Museum to experience the Toshiko Takaezu exhibition, Worlds Within. The exhibition was a powerful encounter for all, with some student artists creating new ceramic work informed by what they had seen in the show.

 

Ceramic students continued with a bowl-making session on Saturday, November 16. They created original ceramic art for sale, the proceeds from which will go toward Empty Bowls, “a grassroots movement by artists and crafts people in cities and towns around the world to raise money for food related charities to care for and feed the hungry in their communities.”

 

During the week of Thanksgiving, Cranbrook Schools’ Empty Bowls Club will feed an estimated 9,600 meals in southeast Detroit, bringing the program’s total to 58,700 meals served.

 

This years’ Studio and Empty Bowls sale will be Saturday December 14, 2024, from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM in the Ceramics Studio, Kingswood alley. Come early – they sell fast!
