Cranbrook’s state-champion Economics team has finished the season ranked third in the United States.
Competing in Manhattan at the National Economics Challenge Championship, the team squared off against the other top schools in the country’s “Elite Eight” including Groton and Phillips Exeter. The students demonstrated incredible insight in the timed critical thinking round where they were presented with a complex macroeconomic scenario and were then required to present to a panel of economist judges an in-depth, economic analysis of the situation with possible recommendations.
Their presentation and ability to hold up to the questions and scrutiny of the judges earned them a place in the final four “quiz bowl” round. In the final quiz bowl, they went up against Mt. Hebron, Hunter College, and Lambert with CNBC’s Senior Economics Reporter, Steve Leisman, hosting the live event on CNBC.
After an incredible demonstration of economic knowledge, the team of Alex Wang, Justin Seo, Pingkang Qian, and Toluwani Adebayo earned 3rd place for Cranbrook, taking home individual medals, a school trophy, and a cash prize.
