CKAA Tours Robotic Farm with RAID Club

Members of the Cranbrook Kingswood Alumni Association (CKAA) were treated to a tour of the Robotic Farm in the Cranbrook greenhouse, one of the latest projects by the RAID (Robotics Artificial Intelligence Development) Club. Club advisor Kieren Reynolds gave a brief synopsis of the way in which the club has evolved to allow students with advanced engineering skills stretch their wings as makers and problem solvers. The farm was fabricated in the greenhouse on the Cranbrook campus - mostly from recycled construction materials, and students from the club built the bed and motorized tooling and programmed it to be self-watering, weeding and to detect and treat plant diseases. RAID Club officers Joanie Applefield, Toluwani Adebayo, Benanzea Ndemateben and Ava Raphael ran the group through a plant watering and described their work. They also gave the CKAA a preview of their next project - production of a 3D printed prosthetic leg for a seven-year-old child in need.
