Sheila Bailey joined Cranbrook in 2010, transitioning from her role as a counselor in Bloomfield Hills Schools. At Bloomfield Hills, she served as a 504 coordinator and counselor always available for students to discuss their academic and personal issues. Prior to this, she was a teacher consultant for emotionally and learning diverse students, assisting them with assignments and determining appropriate accommodations. She did diagnostic testing, coordinated Individualized Educational Plans, and supported students in reaching their full potential.
Additionally, Sheila also worked as an adjunct professor and counselor at Oakland Community College, where she guided students in course selection and taught classes in Career Exploration and Self-Esteem.
Since coming to Cranbrook, Sheila has been the advisor for the Student Council. In this role, she oversees all the clubs, Club Fair, Homecoming Dance, Student Activity Days, Talent Show, and manages all club proposals and fundraising sales.
Sheila is actively involved in professional organizations such as the American Counseling Association, the National Career Development Association, and the Professional Development Committee of
Michigan Association for College Admission Counseling
[JT1] . She has hosted webinars for the Michigan Association for College Admission Counseling (MACAC) members featuring speakers from around the country to talk with counselors and admission representatives about Financial Aid, Military Academies, College Podcasts, and College Counseling Curricula. Sheila served on the executive board of MACAC for seven years representing Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars & Admissions Officers (MACRAO) and focusing on college fairs and has been on the advisory boards for Northern Illinois University, the University of Toledo, and Michigan State University. As a Certified Global Career Facilitator, Sheila brings extensive expertise in career exploration. She particularly enjoys working with Cranbrook students, hearing about their lives, and helping them find colleges where they can thrive and be happy. In 2024 Sheila received the Cranbrook Kingswood Acestes Award which recognizes someone who has gone above and beyond their roles to enhance student life at Cranbrook.
Sheila resides in Troy with her husband, Chuck, and they have three grown children. Her daughters live in Chicago and New Jersey and her son lives nearby in Beverly Hills.
