Guggenheim Fellow and CK Alum is Visiting Artist

Guggenheim fellow and an internationally renowned painter Stephanie Snider, CK ’87, is working with Cranbrook students from October 5-8 as a visiting artist in the drawing studio. She is also exhibiting 20 drawings in the Kingswood Lower Gallery. The show is open to members of the Cranbrook community, and will be open through October 30th.

Stephanie lives and works in New York. She received her MFA from the Yale School of Art, and her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design. In 2000-2001, she was the recipient of the Berlin Prize/Philip Morris Emerging Artist Prize in cooperation with the American Academy in Berlin. She is a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship for 2009-2010.

Her work has been exhibited widely, including exhibitions at the Bronx Museum, NY, the Hudson River Museum in New York, Danese Gallery, NY, Galerie Thomas Schulte Berlin, Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin and others. Snider has been reviewed in major newspapers such as The New York Times, The Berliner Morgenpost, and Der Tagesspiegel, and has also received reviews in such publications as Art in America and B Magazine (Berlin).

She has taught at RISD, Princeton University, Maryland Institute College of Art, Ohio University, and Yale.

Her work namely takes the form of drawings, paintings and sculpture dealing with personal memory and history as well as social and cultural space through the lens of fictional architecture and design.
