It may have looked like an early Halloween – but it was Cranbrook’s Worldviews & Civilizations classes studying the evolution of Hominid skulls.
Cameron Wood, Anthropology Coordinator and Educator at Cranbrook Institute of Science, is visiting the classes of Leah Edmonds, Erika Hansinger, and Jenny Roebuck this fall to give students a hands-on experience with Chimpanzee, Human, Australopithecus, Homo Habilis, and Homo Neanderthalensis skulls.
By studying and measuring these replicas, students learn about how cranial capacity grew over millions of years. This activity is followed by a trip to CIS to learn about Paleolithic skills such as hunting technology. Students enjoy coming face-to-face with these ancestors!
