Astronauts Whitson, Shoffner Inspire the Middle School for Girls
For National STEAM Day, middle school girls set their sights on the stars.
In honor of National STEAM Day, the Cranbrook Kingswood Middle School for Girls hosted a remarkable virtual event featuring Axiom Space astronauts Peggy Whitson and John Shoffner.
Peggy, an accomplished former NASA astronaut, shared her inspiring journey to becoming the first female commander of the International Space Station, setting records with nearly 675 days spent in space. Joining her was John, a multi-talented individual with experience as a pilot, race car driver, and skydiver, who recently became the 598th person to orbit the Earth. In May, they embarked on a mission to the space station alongside two Saudi Arabian astronauts.
During the event, both astronauts shared their incredible experiences in space and fielded thought-provoking questions from the school's students.
The girls left the event feeling deeply inspired and full of anticipation for the boundless opportunities that the future holds for them.
