Dr. Aaron Esser-Kahn ’00 is a professor at the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, where he leads the Esser-Kahn Lab and conducts pioneering research at the intersection of biology, chemistry, and materials science. A scientist with a deep appreciation for literature and the written word, Esser-Kahn blends analytical precision with creative thinking—skills he first honed at Cranbrook as a student with wide-ranging academic interests. In 2024, he returned to campus to deliver the keynote address at the fall Cum Laude induction ceremony, where he encouraged students to grow and adapt like living systems, and to draw from both the sciences and humanities in their pursuit of understanding and impact. Known for his collaborative spirit and clarity in communicating complex ideas, Esser-Kahn continues to advance research that has the potential to improve health, technology, and the environment—while inspiring the next generation of thinkers and innovators.
