The CK varsity golf team finished off a fine season with a 27 stroke victory at the MHSAA State Tournament at Ferris State University on Saturday. The team fired a tremendous round of 289 to run away from defending champion DeWitt, and home town Big Rapids, to win Cranbrook-Kingswoods 4th team title. The 289 total was one stroke shy of the school record 288, shot by the 1997 team on the first day of the 1997 State Tournament.
Senior Co-Captain Michael Ray led the way finishing his fine career with an even-par round of 71. Senior Co-Captain, and defending individual champion, Griffin Smith was next for the Cranes with a round of 72. Junior Alex Papa improved his Friday score by one, with a 73, and Freshman Dylan Deogun also finished with a 73.
The Cranes placed three individuals in the top 10 for the first time since the 1997 team did the same. Dylan Deogun tied for 4th place overall, while Michael Ray tied for 7th, and Alex Papa tied for 9th.
