CK loses to Lahser 1-3, First Round of Districts

In the first round of districts, CK played Lahser at Lahser. The home field advantage (and turf) was possibly a factor in Lahser's 3-1 victory. Lahser scored first to take the lead. To tie the game, Madi Heimerdinger scored, assisted by Madison Romney. Lahser then proceeded to score 2 more goals and take the lead 3-1. In the second half neither team scored. CK played hard and although we lost, it was not due to lack of effort or heart. Goalie Lexi Higbee had an outstanding performance, saving many goals including a breakaway where she slid out to save a goal. Dana Bolcer shined in the last minutes of the game, continuing to pressure Lahser to the very end. Katie Kernen had a few key clears in CK's defensive third. Katie Payne played outstanding Defense and also took a beautiful free kick that went past the keepers hands and almost into the goal. Amanda Reuss send great balls for the forwards/mids to run onto. Marlee Goldstein shut down a key player for Lahser and won many great balls in the air. Esme Roddy was solid as usual and even dangled a few of Lahser's forwards. Frances Whiting worked hard throughout the game and made many phenomenal recovery runs. Olivia Chen motivated the players on the field with enthusiasm and constructive cheers that were vital to keeping up the team's spirits even when we were down. Sydney Shuert played a great game and had a few outstanding head flicks off of throw-ins. Madison Romney worked hard as ever on both defense and offense, and never stopped fighting until the game was over. Jackie Shapiro saved many goals with her tactical defending skills. Sadie Scholten supported the team immensely by cheering for everyone and giving them that extra push to keep working hard. Jackie Honet had many great runs and lay-backs and also some great dangles. Betsy Hafke exerted herself all over the field and won many key headers. Sydney Sakwa had a key play when she challenged one of Lahser's defenders and won, putting CK in Lahser's defensive third. Madi Heimerdinger scored the only goal for CK and was a constant threat to Lahser's defense with her breakaways and speed. Special thanks to Dee Dee Morrow for keeping stats for CK the whole season and for her support from the bench. Great season CK and thank you to all our coaches, managers, ball-boys, and fans!
