Renovation of the Boys Middle School – Groundbreaking in 2007
Thanks to the support of almost 100 donors, approximately $8 million
has now been raised to fund the expansion and renovation of the Boys
Middle School. The lead donors, Stephen and Bobbi Polk are parents of 2
Cranbrook students. They committed $2 million to the project three
years ago, believing that the gift would enable their youngest son and
other middle school boys to benefit from a first rate education in a
building to match. Looking ahead is key, Polk says. “There’s no better
investment we can make than in our children.” Supporters who
contributed $250,000 or more to this project include Mike and Adele
Acheson, Mitchell and Michelle Bleznak David and Jennifer Forbes,
Sidney and Maddie Forbes, the Ghesquiere/Groth/Gordon Family, John and
Christine Giampetroni, Andy and Linda Jacob, and David and Linda Kent.
Central
among the improvements is a new gymnasium suited to meet the needs of
these growing middle school boys. The current gym, originally designed
for elementary children, will be renovated to create a new Dining Hall,
able to seat 130 boys at one time (compared to our seating capacity of
65 now). Our current Dining Hall and serving area will be utilized for
a fitness room and Physical Education office. There will also be
several new offices, locker rooms, an entrance lobby, and exterior
improvements – see the full listing below. Many thanks to all of the
Brookside parents who contributed to the new gymnasium’s hard wood
floors at Kaleidoscope’s March event! Pending a successful bidding
process, the Groundbreaking Ceremony is planned for this spring. The
renovation is projected to be completed in time for school opening in
fall 2008. Many thanks again to all of you who contributed to this much
needed renovation!
