Cranbrook Debate Team Prevails at National Tournament

The CK Debate team traveled this past weekend to Alta High School in Sandy, Utah to compete in the Alta Black National Debate Tournament. They returned as Co-Champions with 3 TOC (Tournament of Champions) bids (2 Gold, 1 Silver)!

 

This is the first national tournament debate tournament championship since Harry Ren and Lindsiann Shi won the U. of Michigan National Debate Tournament in 2019.

Martin Huang/Jack Zhang (Gold Bid & Co-Champions!)

 

Martin and Jack advanced to the finals and realized they were set to take on Cranbrook's "Debate Ally," Saanvi Goyal and Sophie Lu from Monta Vista High School in California. The Monta Vista duo has worked with Cranbrook at debate camps in the summer and frequently share research and friendship during competitions.  As both teams had secured their Gold Bids, they decided to ask that both teams be declared "co-champions."
