Honoring the nation’s best, National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) saluted top middle and high school designs, illustrations, writing, photography, and publications published in scholastic publications during their annual Fall convention held in Boston.
BEST OF SHOW AWARDS
More than 4,800 high school journalists and advisers attended the convention. Schools were eligible to participate in this on-site competition which honored two main categories: individual recognition and staff recognition. Cranbrook Schools newspapers were recognized among the very best in the county at both the Middle and Upper School level.
The Crane, the student newspaper of the Cranbrook Kingswood Middle School for Boys was awarded second place in Best of Show for the Middle or Junior High School division, and the Upper School’s The Crane Clarion was awarded fifth place in the High School division.
PACEMAKER AWARDS
National Scholastic Press Association has presented scholastic journalism’s preeminent award — the Pacemaker — since 1927.
In September NSPA named 54 scholastic student newspapers, newsmagazines and specialty magazines published during the 2022-23 school year as finalists in its prestigious Pacemaker competition. Entries must have been published or broadcast during the dates specified on each entry form. High school and junior high/middle school student media are both eligible and compete in separate categories.
For the first time in Cranbrook history, Cranbrook Kingswood Middle School for Boys was named a finalist for this prestigious award. Editor in Chief Roshan Desai, ’27, has been editor in chief for two years and responsible for the redesign of the publication.
“The Pacemaker is the association’s preeminent award,” Executive Director Laura Widmer says. For both finalists and the winners, she added that, “NSPA is honored to recognize the best of the best.”
