Brookside Wilderness Awareness Event Builds Community, Connection with Nature.

This past weekend saw a very special program at Cranbrook for students in 3^rd through 5^th grade. The Brookside Wilderness Awareness Event, led by staff from Brookside, Horizons-Upward Bound, and the Upper School (along with enthusiastic student leaders) was designed to help students foster a deep connection with nature and each other.

 

Held among the fields and wooded areas near the Senior Cabin, the experience utilized Cranbrook’s unparalleled campus to teach the fundamentals of outdoorsmanship and collaboration.

 

Throughout the day, students participated in meaningful activities centered on awareness, gratitude, and the “sacred order” of survival.

 

The event was organized by Upper School World Languages Teacher and Wilderness Programs Specialist Chad O'Kulich.

 

Says O'Kulich, “It was inspiring to witness their growing curiosity and appreciation for the natural world as they learned valuable skills applicable both in and out of the classroom. The sense of community and connection made during this event was truly heartwarming. We believe that these experiences are essential for our students' growth, both academically and personally.”
