Physician, Advocate, Health Equity Leader
Dr. Cecelia “CC” Calhoun ’03 is a hematologist-oncologist and the medical director of the Sickle Cell Program at Yale’s Smilow Cancer Hospital, where she specializes in caring for adolescents and young adults living with the disease. A proud graduate of both Cranbrook Schools and the Horizons-Upward Bound program, Calhoun was a boarding student, scholar, and athlete—finding mentorship on the basketball court and academic inspiration in the sciences. She credits Cranbrook with nurturing her natural curiosity and giving her the confidence to pursue big questions, both in science and in life. Her passion for medicine took shape during her Senior May Project, and she went on to study Afro American Studies at the University of Michigan and earn her M.D. from Wayne State. A leader in the national conversation on health equity, she also holds a master’s in population health and an executive MBA from Yale, where she now helps shape future leaders as assistant director of the Pozen-Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Health Equity Leadership.
