Eighth Grade Interim Trip

Eighth Grade Interim Trip, 2024

Tuesday, September 24 - Arrive to school by 7:30 a.m.
to Friday, September 27 - Pickup approximately 3:00 p.m.
We’ll be traveling by bus to southeastern Pittsburgh, a region consisting of several distinct neighborhoods and, like Detroit, brimming with cultural and academic diversity. Cities such as Oakland, PA (home of Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh) resemble Ann Arbor (University of Michigan), Rochester Hills (Oakland University), and Detroit (University of Detroit and Wayne State), as all are known as bustling college communities. The quieter Pittsburgh neighborhoods of Squirrel Hill and Shadyside are known for their residential life like Bloomfield Hills. Spring Hills / Champion, PA, where our hotel resort is located, is an hour from Pittsburgh and located in Somerset and Fayette Counties, the resort and borough portion of the area.

During our time in this region, we will have the opportunity to experience many outdoor activities that will challenge us and enable us to  grow physically and mentally, stepping outside our comfort zones. And, in both the exciting and down times, we'll of course enjoy time with each other – our 8th grade classmates and teachers! What a great opportunity to kick off our last year in middle school!

Interim Trip Highlights

List of 4 items.

  • Seven Springs Mountain Resort

Mid-afternoon on Tuesday we’ll arrive at Seven Springs Mountain Resort, located in the borough of Seven Springs (also called Champion), Pennsylvania.  At 3,001 feet (915 m) above sea level this area is known for its relatively high elevation. Seventeen years after Detroit philanthropists George and Ellen Scripps Booth began the Cranbrook Educational Community, the German German immigrant Dupré family bought 2.5 acres (about the area of a Manhattan city block) and founded Seven Springs farm, which later became the resort. After getting our room assignments and unpacking, we’ll have dinner and will spend the evening enjoying the activities around the hotel, including basketball, sand volleyball, tennis, pool, putt-putt golf, and corn hole on a huge grass field.
  • Wilderness Voyageurs

After breakfast (reportedly the resort’s best meal!), we will spend the day rafting with Wilderness Voyageurs, the “go-to outfitter to experience Ohio Pyle’s best white-water rafting.”  Established in 1964, they are the oldest and the most experienced outfitter for outings on the rivers in southern Pennsylvania.

    ONLINE WAIVER:
All parents must complete the online waiver for their child prior to our departure. The online waiver form will enable students to participate during our bike ride, rock-climbing, and whitewater rafting activities. Without the online form completed by a parent/guardian, students cannot participate at Wilderness Voyageurs. Click here to complete the online waiver.

    From the Wilderness Voyageurs website:
