Cranbrook Envisions a Cure (CEC) will be celebrating a decade of volunteer service and community support! This annual event allows everyone in the Cranbrook community, as well as their family and friends, to have the opportunity to help underwrite cancer research and honor those who are currently dealing with cancer or have in the past. Envisions a Cure belongs to the entire Cranbrook community and is designed to strengthen the strong network of outreach and support that is needed to raise awareness about the struggles of dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

Envisions a Cure is truly an occasion that comes from the heart of the Cranbrook community. Created in 2008 by Sarah Levine Jacobs, CK ’92, now past parent, cancer survivor; and Cec Vettraino Strine, now retired BS faculty member, cancer survivor. Since its inception, each charity and/or guest speaker has had a direct connection to the Cranbrook community:

• Imerman Angels: Jon Imerman founder, cancer survivor, CK’94
• Miles Alpern Levin Philanthropic Fund: in memory of Miles, CK’07
• Scott King Serving Aces for Sarcoma Fund: in memory of Scott, CS ‘78
• John H Wineman Education and Research Fund in Radiation Oncology (U of M): in memory of John, past parent of Ben CK’94, Andrew ’96, James ‘02
• Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of MI: Dr. Michael Stafford, Dir. of CIS, cancer survivor/former cancer caregiver
• Angela Hospice: John Winter, former CS Dean of Boys and retired Director of Alumni Relations, former cancer caregiver
• Sisters Hope: James Cristbrook, present parent, former cancer caregiver
• St. Baldrick’s Foundation: A. Robb Aikens, present parent, Secretary Booster Club
• Gilda’s Club: Ellen Jaffe Sherman, KS ’82, present parent, cancer survivor
• MIOCA (Michigan Ovarian Cancer Alliance): Nancy Evanson, retired BS faculty, past parent

This year’s event is sponsored by the CEC Club and the CK Cross Country team, and features the following charities: MIOCA, Gilda’s Club, St. Baldrick’s Foundation, and Imerman Angels. Welcome remarks will begin at 12:45pm.

Envisions a Cure will also be dedicating this year’s event to the memory of Brookside faculty member Katie Fiebig, who was a devoted volunteer, parent, and friend who never missed a single CEC walk.

Please plan to attend on September 23rd so that you participate in raising awareness, make new friends, and learn about the important work of these charities—all of which make a big impact!

Registration begins at noon!
