CK Standout Hockey Player Drafted by Red Wings

Former CK hockey star Alec Regula has built upon his successes on the Cranbrook hockey team through his recent draft to the Detroit Red Wings. On June 23rd, he was selected by the team as a part of the 2018 NHL Draft, coming in as the 67th overall pick.

Regula, who spent two years playing for the Cranes during his high school career, quickly became a standout player with a natural talent for the sport. During those two years, Regula participated in the 2015 state championship game and scored 6 goals and 25 assists in the 54 games he played. By his sophomore year, Regula had become one of the team's strongest players and top defensemen, according to CK Hockey coach Andy Weidenbach.

Weidenbach, who has served as coach for the past 26 years, is impressed by his former player's accomplishments--but this news doesn't come as a shock to him. “I’m not surprised at all that he’s doing as well as he is. All he needed was an opportunity to play and develop, and Cranbrook was a good match and he did a great job," Weidenbach remarked. "It’s going to be an exciting journey for him, and we wish him well.”

Regula has fond memories of his time as a student and athlete at Cranbrook Schools. “Cranbrook has a really special place in my heart," he stated. "They have unbelievable people and teachers there, and great kids. I loved it there.”
