CK Michigan Youth in Government Continues Its Record of Excellence in Lansing

Cranbrook Kingswood sent a school-record 33 students to the annual statewide conference for Michigan Youth in Government, held in Lansing from February 22-25. It was an enormously successful conference for the CK delegation.

A host of students served in prominent leadership positions at the conference: Geoffrey Qin served as Lieutenant Governor, while Gabe Ervin, Alessandro Leporati, Konnie Lin, Jason Ouyang, and Reet Singh all served as committee chairs or clerks in their respective legislatures. Sofie Adams served as a Supreme Court Justice at the conference, and she was also given an individual award for the best prosecuting attorney in the conference’s Mock Trial competition. Grace Al-Sheikh received a special commendation for her role in the judicial review process at the conference.

Last but definitely not least, Aashray Khanna was elected governor at the conference. Running a well-designed campaign that combined humor with expertise in public policy, Aashray utilized the help of campaign adviser Justin Wang and many other CK delegates to defeat two other candidates for the honor of being the student governor of next year’s conference: the highest and most prestigious office available in MYIG. Khanna continues Cranbrook Kingswood’s strong tradition of electing youth governors in MYIG, as he will be the third CK student to have served in that role in the eleven years that the school has participated in the organization.

With Cranbrook Kingswood gaining special recognition with three other schools as a “premier delegation” at this year’s conference, it is clear that CK students have established themselves as a vital force in Michigan Youth in Government, with one of the strongest delegations in the state.
