Cranbrook Senior named Mr. Tennis

Owen DeMuth becomes the first Cranbrook Schools student to win the award.

Cranbrook Schools Senior Owen DeMuth has been named the Bob Wood Mr. Tennis Award winner by the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association.

He is the first Cranbrook student to ever receive the recognition.

The award is given annually to a Number One Senior Singles player. Each Division nominates one player from their respective division and a statewide winner is chosen from that elite group of four.

The Cranbrook Schools team captain, DeMuth is a three-time team MVP at the school, a National High School All-American, State High School Champion for the 2022 season, and is a two-time State Number One singles finalist. He is also a top 10 ranked junior player in the Midwest area.

According to Head Coach Steve Herdoiza, “Owen was the quintessential leader/teammate for our team. Not only did he have an incredibly successful career on the court but more importantly he gave his heart and soul to his teammates and the program.”

"Owen's impact on our tennis program and the athletic department is immeasurable,” says Cranbrook Schools Athletic Director Keith Levinthal. “I'm excited to see him take the step of his career on the tennis team at Georgia Tech.”

DeMuth has officially committed to join the Georgia Tech men’s tennis program next year.

Reflecting on what the award means to him, Owen shares that, “Winning this award is a great honor and the perfect way to cap my high school tennis career. I’d like to thank the amazing coaches and teammates at Cranbrook who have supported my journey and made it so gratifying.”

“I’ve had the privilege to play tennis tournaments all over the country,” he reflects, “but there’s nothing like representing your school.”
