Join us for the Bennett Reading Tuesday September 21

Please join us for the annual Elizabeth Bennett Reading on Tuesday evening September 21 at the Cranbrook Art Museum.
There will be a reception with faculty writing grant recipients Rachel Applebaum and Darlene Earls from 5:30-6:30, followed by select readings from their summer work in deSalle Auditorium starting at 6:30. Dowload a copy of the flyer here.

Second-year Bennett grant recipient Rachel Applebaum of the English Departmentwill share a selection of new poetry. She has been honing her craft through work with Wellspring Writers Workshops and The Poetry School in London.  First-year grantee, Darlene Earls was also busy over the summer. As an artist-in-residence with current students in our metalsmithing, sculpture and digital photography studios, she has been exploring the connection between the written word and visual work and polishing her novella.

The readings will provide a sampling of the work that these two faculty members took on this summer as recipients of the Elizabeth Bennett Writing Grant, now in its 37th year. The purpose of the grant is to provide recipients with opportunities to pursue personal writing projects. The grant is named for Kingswood English teacher Elizabeth Bennett. From 1936 to 1968 she inspired her Kingswood students with a reverence for the written word.
